Current Events Sweepstakes awards four $250.00 scholarships each year to full-year subscribers as a way of helping schools fund activities or to purchase additional supplies. School budgets are tight all across the country, and this is our small way to give something back to the education community.

For the 2007 - 2008 school year, the winners of
The Talmadge M. Warren Scholarships are:

Warwick High School, Litiz, PA
Frank W. Cox School, Virginia Beach, VA
Leetonia High School, Leetonia, OH
Tuba City High School, Tuba City, AZ

The four winners are determined by a random computer selection from our full-year subscribers, so everyone has an equal opportunity to win one of the four awards.

We've named our scholarship program the Talmadge M. Warren Scholarship to honor one of our most beloved subscribers. Talmadge M. Warren was a high school and middle school geography teacher in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, for most of his 35 years in education. His dedication to his family, students and community were surpassed only by his dedication to teaching.

In the fall of 1999, Mr. Warren passed away at the age of 65 after a valiant battle with cancer. It was his final wish to have his body donated to the University of Tennessee College of Medicine to help young people become better doctors. Even in death, Mr. Warren keeps on teaching.
